12° Conference | 2019
TPSR Conference Program 2019 - June 17 – 19 - Adelphi University
The multi-day TPSR conference begins with a welcome by Sarah Doolittle and the presentation of the Don Hellison TPSR Award to Karen Puckett, followed by an invitation to Dave Walsh’s TPSR class and a keynote on career pathways in value-based TPSR work. The second day features multiple concurrent sessions covering topics like integrating TPSR into physical education, sustaining TPSR programs, evaluating life skill transfer, and exploring culturally relevant pedagogy. Highlights include contributions from educators and practitioners across various institutions and a group dinner. On the final day, sessions focus on international applications of TPSR in New Zealand and Timor-Leste, youth leadership and conflict resolution, and discussions on future initiatives such as a new TPSR book edition and upcoming journal features. The conference concludes with a feedback session, Alliance meeting, and an AIESEP reception.
Don Hellison developed the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility Model (TPSR) through his work with kids in Portland and Chicago. Throughout his 40+ years career, Don developed a network of youth development professionals, students, and academics who have used TPSR and similar values-based strategies to connect with kids through sports and physical activity. The TPSR Alliance was established in 2008 to share research, ideas, plans, application and evaluation of the TPSR model.
